This magnificent christening or baptismal font was a gift to Queen Emma of the Hawaiian Kingdom from Queen Victoria in 1862. Queen Victoria was to be godmother to Queen Emma's son Prince Albert Edward Kamehameha. Unfortunately he died in that year. The font now is on display at the Queen Emma Summer Palace or Hanaiakamalama (The Foster Child of the Moon) in Honolulu. In the period photograph by Honolulu photographer James J Williams is dated circa 1883. Was unable to ascertain whether it was in fact designed by Garrard's principle designer of the time, Edmund Cotterill who passed away in 1860. Does Garrard's have an archive that can be accessed, was unable to locate any information online.
