Hello
I have a large grape vine patterned platter but although I believe this to be Elkington & Co I am struggling with the third mark. Unfortunately they are that tiny they are hard to see but the first is a gothic something or other, the second E&Co under a crown in a shield and the third is a diamond shape with and O but here is the weird bit there is a cross in the middle of the O. Can anyone help with the last mark please? Is it the date letter O or something else.

Many thanks in advance

I believe it's the date letter for 1853. The silvercollection.it site has an illustration of an 1853 Elkington plate mark with an "O" exactly like the one in your picture. See http://www.silvercollection.it/ELKINGTON.html and click on 1853, not "O" which is an image without the cross.

Can I ask another question please. Should there be another mark for Mason given the date or not necessarily?

Looking at the selection of marks on Giorgio's site it would appear that there were no rules for what appeared in Elkington's marks.
