What is this Metal Piece used for?

It's very pretty, but I have no idea what it is. It's just been sitting around waiting for someone to tell me...hasn't happened yet, and it's been over 10 years. :) Please help if you know. Thank you!

Hi welcome to the forum.
Ornamental part, cast metal perhaps cold painted bronze, could you give us the dimensions?

Hi,
Thank you for your response. This piece is 8" in diameter and in the center is 1 1/2" deep.
I was thinking maybe for the base of a lamp, but not sure.
