I wonder if anyone recognizes the hallmark on this swing handle basket, which I believe is from the late 1800s but am unsure. There could be other marks but everything is so worn I can't be sure. I imagine this is heavily plated but it could be 800 silver. I don't know. It's awfully heavy so I do think it's plated. The foot is applied and might be covering part of the mark. Thank you very much for taking a look!

I might be hallucinating but I thought maybe this was a hallmark as well. I think I've been looking at this piece too much, trying to figure out if I should keep it or let it go and i'm starting to see patterns in the surface blobs!

Hi Lenaglass,

Maybe I'm hallucinating too, but check out the marks of Czechoslovakia at: http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html

haha! Let me cogitate on that one. Thank you, Trev. It's confusing to me because the applied foot and the cast border don't seem like silver yet the pierced bowl does. I may end up acid testing the bowl, since the piece looks to have been dropped and dented a wee bit, but I'm not ready to send it to the scrap pile yet!

Thanks so much everyone who's worked on this great board. I learn so much going through the topics and pages.
