Are these pseudo hallmarks on medal

I found this medal and on first looks appears to be 9ct gold. But not sure as its seems to be on base metal/silver.
Thought it strange as a runners up medal in gold.
Marks show Birmingham 1926 but cannot id sponsors mark.
Any thoughts?

Hello,
.375 is 9ct gold (I have a ring with the similar hallmarks).
As far as maker mark goes, I would venture "William Philip Whiteman"
http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make ... WR.html#WP
even though his mark does not feature the & S. A lot of companies did add their sons on later on. The reason I guess him is because he is listed to have done a fob medal before on this site.
Hope this helps.

If Whiteman went into partnership with his son his mark would surely be WPW&S or WW&S, not WP&S. Unfortunately I am unable to make an identification.
The hallmark looks genuine as far as I can see so I am unable to explain why it might be on something other than gold.
