M Rhodes & Company

I am in the process of restoring a barometer with M. Rhodes & Co. on the porcelain dial and in my research I have found very little if any information regarding instruments he sold, i.e., clocks, barometers etc. I know he was primarily a silversmith but I wonder if he retailed a wide variety of items like a department store.
This barometer is well made, solid oak, the case is 2 inches thick and nicely carved and I am correcting a few flaws. Based upon company history am I safe in assuming that this instrument was made prior to the company becoming "..and son"?
I would submit a photo but I don't see any prompts.
Any guidance will be appreciated,
Bruce Barnes
