A family gold ring has been given to me for identification. It is too small and difficult for me to photo and emai. The marks are warn, but (from a goldsmith) are probably : Chester;
Year not clear, probably 1882 or 1862.
Makers naME : SU
The ring is in the form of a belt with a single small diamond.
The overlap of the belt is hinged and lifts up to reveaL the words "I CLING TO THEE"
My Great Grandfather emigrated to New Zealand in 1863, aged 19, and went on to become a Beer baron of considerable wealth. Family legend suggest the ring was left as security for a loan, or was a gift to an aunt of mine from a WW1 soldier who did not return.
Any information as to the origin of this ring would be appreciated.
