Carl M Cohr Danish Silvermaker

Hi, Can anyone please tell me if there was a Cohr factory after his death in 1937. We have a set of minature silver candle holders which look so modern that we thought they were 50s or 60s but I can find no record of work after his death and they have his lower case "cohr" mark on them (which appears to point directly to him as a maker on this site). Could they conceiveably be deco, or is it like Jensen whose factory went on without him?

There is also a subsidiary mark of a lighted torch in a stretched hexagon, but that may just be a clever play on the Danish flag. Also, does anyone know where Cohr stands in the pantheon of Danish designers?

Many thanks in advance

Christian Thomas

Cohr was in business at least until 1987. Not a designer, but a large scale manufacturer. The firm is well regarded for quality work.

Hi Tom

My, that was quick reply! Thanks for the info. It was probably always too optimistic to think they were earlier, though they do look handmade. One never knows with Danes as they were so often so far ahead of their times and have such clean lines and some unusual shapes.

What a shame not to see them in business still. It would be very interesting to see a company website.

Thanks again

Christian Thomas
