HI,

I have a small silver bowl and the only hallamark is in the inside middle part of the bowl, it looks like a bird or maybe a unicorn or horse. Is this a hallmark for silver purity in some country or is it a maker mark? If any one could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

very nice. And its a bowl as you wrote. I had the idea of a tea holder. (but its not)
The tungra is the sulthan mark. Try to compair yours with these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tughra
on the Picture under bottom it looks like an assayer zigzag line.
the tungra is pre 1923 - lets hope that some of our members can say more.

Tughra mark of Turkey i.e. Ottoman Empire 1844 - 1925. It should have guaranteed 0.900 fineness but was not strictly obeyed.
