Who can tell me what this silver box is, seems to be made in 1828 by IVH (J van Hoek??).

Hi Heidi,

Yes, maker's mark JVH under a fish for: Johannes van Hoek, registered in Amsterdam 1820/1847. The (hall)marks are spread over the box, I can not find a year letter and assay office mark, I noticed the lion passant only. Could you give us some sizes?
Oel.

Thanks Oel for confirming, will try and make a picture of the "minervahead" and "year letter" as well. Do you think it is a "loderein" box.
Seems to me it could have quite some value, if it is a genuine box from 1828!

Thanks Oel, size is 6x3x3 cm.
Do you have an idea of the meaning of the images?

Hi Heidi,
Yes, a true lodderein box made 19th century, when an abundance of those lodderein boxes were made in small silver factories, in various shapes and sizes. Early 18th century boxes are rarer, often not factory made and thus more valuable.

The scene is a biblical theme, St Peter with fish and inspired by the holy spirit; an inspired man works the earth, sow the land and fish the seas, to harvest food and a happy family life.
Best,
Peter.

Thanks Peter,
Interesting to know the story behind the images. In the meantime I added photos of the year letter and the minerva:

Hi Heidi,
It is always better to embed your images as few people will click on links.

Thanks Oel, rather complex, isn't it, why not just allowing the uploading of for instance 3 pictures with a certain maximum size, should be possible (as for instance done on a similar forum for detectorfinds:
http://detectorvrienden-vlaanderen.be/nforum/)

Hi Heidi,
Thanks for the advice on how to run the forum.
The other forum you mentioned would indeed seem to be a better place for you to submit your future questions to, and it will save you deleting your images as you have done with us in the past.
Trev.

Sorry Trev, it was not my intention at all to insult anybody. I just wondered why on some websites you can just add pictures without having to publish first on an external website. Again, please accept my apologies and I will read carefully the instructions given and try to follow them in future. I certainly am grateful for all the help I get on this site, mea culpa!
