help with hallmark

Hi I first put this in the plate section as I thought it was plate and got some very helpful advice from mike it appears to be silver, have been to the hallmark page and cant quite make out which n it is I bought a magnifying glass this morning and it has helped a bit and also help with the maker would be appreciated, have done a better scan of the hallmark I think so hope you can help, I appolagise for my ignorance but getting on in years and my eyesight is not that good, many thanks in advance.

Tony,

It seems to be a fiddle pattern salt spoon assayed in London 1848. I'll hazard a guess at John Whiting for the maker, but I'm not sure.

Many thanks for your help it is certainly appreciated, I dont know whether they are salt spoons they are very big and heavy over 7ins long and bowl is elongated and measures over 2 and a half ins more like a minature ladle, soup spoon pherhaps?, again many thanks this is one great site with great people.

Yes, you're quite right: much too big for a salt spoon. At that size, it's most likely a sauce ladle.
