Identification on drinking cup?

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so apolgies if I've created this post in the wrong area.
I was clearing out my grandmothers house when I cam across this cup and because I'd never noticed it before I was interested in finding out more info on it.
I've worked out already from the hallmark on the bottom that it was made by Thomas Wilkinson & Sons/Pelican Ware, but I wondered if anyone knows what kind of cup it is, what it would have been used for and what the B.F.T. might stand for on the front?

Many thanks in advance
