Before posting my question for a piece, I decided to try to "pay it forward" beforehand. Here's what I've found on the "Sterling Ed.Harris" mystery:

"Ed Harris was(is?) a Navajo American Indian artist:

Only other search I could think to do was for "Edith Harris", which would have prompted the period in "Ed", indicating a longer name disguised as male for reasons of social acceptance.

Ed.Harris silver money clip, last image (saved in case it goes away) showing "(c) Reg Manning" along with "Pat.Pend." and the "ED.Harris" stamp.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully the money-clip will help shed some light on the mystery as the images came from a more recent auction. I did some searches on the "Manning" stamp but didn't find anything conclusive.

There was an Ed Harris jewelry manufacturing company in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1950's that may be a good possibility.

I have also found an Ed Harris Trading Company in 1945, Edward C Harris wholesale indian goods in 1947, Edward C Harris Indian Goods in 1948, and jewelry manufacturers in 1952, always at 4311 N 24th Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

U.S. Patent #2729868 was issued on Jan. 10, 1956 to Reginald W. Manning of Phoenix, AZ for "improvements in paper money holders", the illustration shows a figure of a sailor...

Great catch Cheryl! "Reg" seems likely to be the Pulitzer Prize winning Phoenix cartoonist of the same name.
