Hi all

Here is a small, nicely proportioned cream jug. It is 7.5 cms high and weighs 78.5 gms. It is marked Birmingham for 1902. However the maker is eluding me. I can find no reference in the usual sources; even Mr. Google was not helpful. Any assistance identifying S.T.S would be appreciated.

P.S: The jug has "Molly 24-3-03" engraved on the front. I purchased it as it is the name of my cat!

Unfortunately there is no comprehensive reference for Birmingham sponsors' marks for the latter half of the 19th century onwards. S.T.S does not seem to have been a sufficiently major manufacturer to have been noticed.

Given the shape and handle, along with the construction and look of the spout, especially in relation to the engraving, suspect Molly's christening cup was altered for use as a creamer...

Sponsor mark Sydney Thomas Steel, retail jeweller, Cheltenham 1st registered 27th October 1897. Jug definitely an example of a 'change of usage' christening mug to cream jug.
