I am a new collector of between the wars silver.

I especially like the early pattern reproductions of traditional simple patterns like Old English and dognose.

How does one determine if a particular pattern from a particular maker is hand forged?

Obviously for some it is trivial - eg here in the US, say, higher quality examples like CW Fletcher for James Robinson is for sure.
And American stuff like Lunt is stamped. But for British silver it seems more difficult.
It seems especially difficult if purchasing from abroad as having the piece in hand is impossible.

For example, suppose I find a set of 1934 James Dixon dognose dessert spoons on Invaluable.
How would I determine/confirm that they are hand forged?

Can anyone direct me to a good reference book that I may buy or even just a URL?
