The picture is not very clear, but if it says S25 .. the only possible silversmith is
Stefano Sciolet the second, Rome 1826 1870

I could not get any clearer photos, my camera won't focus any closer. Some other people who were looking at the actual chalice think the number in the diamond is "S23", so I would be interested if there is any information on that. One other person looking at it thought there might be an "A" under the papal tiara and keys, but I don't think so.

In the Papal States the silversmith's mark had the form of a lozenge, but only in Rome had letters and numbers, in the other cities had only letters .So it is certain that it is a Roman silversmith.

The books list only known marks and among them there is only one, S 25 S, that can match the one on your chalice.
S23 .. is not listed. Obviously you can not rule out that there existed an unknown Roman silversmith whose mark begins with S 23 ....

Thank you, Amena! I was able to find a photograph somewhere of Sciolet's mark on something else; it seems to be the same one. If anybody knows where I can get more information on him. I am trying to find out who the chalice was originally made for. You have helped my research a lot.
