Not sure if this is the right category but i would like to invest in gold and silver tester. I currently use the acids which work for me but unsure of the grade and i don't like filing objects especially if they are not scrap. I am tempted by the Mizar M24. Anybody on here have any feedback on the machine or recommend and machine that works for them. Many thanks Joss

Hi,
There is no magic in electronic testers. Heavy electroplating can confuse ANY gold tester. This is why it is always recommended that you file the surface of any piece before testing. In a word, exposing suspicious base metal is always needed.
Cheers

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, I believe a Google search will answer most of your questions. To determine the purity of scrap silver the acid test works fine because you can "dig" into the metal to do a reliable test.
Cautions, today many so called gold bars are actually filled with tungsten and gold coins are faked having a lower purity and/ or filled. An acid test/Mizar M24 is not the solution to determine what is behind a (thick) layer of precious metal.

Best,

Oel.
