This is a small book shaped article that measures 1 1/2" x 2", I am thinking maybe stamp holder. I have no idea what the marks mean??
I am assuming KGM is the maker's mark, the u is the date, the next mark shows three crowns (two on top and one on the bottom), and finally X6
Can you help educate me please?

Solid silver!? Silver it is but 830/1000 (the three crowns/cat's paw mark). It is made i Uppsala (U) in 1900 (X6) by Knut Gustaf Markström (KGM) , active 1883-1915. Nice jugend influenced object.

No misunderstanding. The item was posted as ‘Silver Plate Hallmarks``. When referring to solid silver I meant a single silver alloy and not a coating or plating over a base metal, i.e. silver –plate.
