Unidentified marks/maker large serving silver spoon

Post by mattdecoste »

My wife to send get rid of this spoon with a bunch of other stuff at the used clothes store but I decided to see if I could find any info on it first so I NEED HELP! Is my spoon a piece of junk or should I hang on to it? I tried looking through the maker's marks on this web site but it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Any help would be greatly appreciated for a complete silver novice. Thanks!

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum.

Junk? it is a beautiful pierced and engraved silver serving spoon. Clean it and hang on to it. I believe it to be Persian (Farsi) ۸ ۴ or 84 (zolotniki) as 875/1000 parts silver. The maker's mark and/or name is unknown to me. For more information you could browse the Middle East topics.

Best,

Oel.

Yes,it`s definitively fineness ``84`` in Persian as suggested by Oel. Persian digit 4 is different from Arabic.
Nicely hand pierced, btw.
