Hello,

I know this is a dish/bowl ring but I don't know if it is sterling silver or otherwise. I also cannot find any hallmarks of any kind on this piece. Any help from this savvy community will by greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time on this!

Ugh, I'm sorry. I tried to post the pics according to the directions on the site, not sure why it didn't work.

You know what it is even if I would call it a napkin ring nonetheless, a common rule is that," No marks, not silver!" It is not a waterproof rule but almost, sorry.

It's quite nicely done, with the dog and boar (wonderful detailing) - might look for marks hidden in design, but some Irish silver dish/potato rings were unmarked...

Seems wild boar became extinct in Ireland in the 12th century so seems odd to have a hunting dog and a wild boar on an Irish dish ring (wild boar became extinct in England a century after Ireland but were reintroduced before becoming extinct again in the 17th century). Irish rococo dish rings had scenes with shepherds, girls, farm animals, foxes, birds, leaves, fruit and the like as well as typical rococo scrolls. Later 18th century dish rings included trellis patterns and arabesque piercings embellished with festoons in neo-classical style.

This dish ring looks more modern, perhaps late Victorian. Could it be English? See one below, London 1899.

A bit of a stab in the dark but judging by decorative style & subject matter, would say Austro-Hungarian, German or Austrian (German Black Forrest).
