Any help on knowing the exact use for this chain? and maybe the date?

The two ends of the chain go inside both berries , the purple berries are made of enamel and although the piece is unmarked its tested for sterling silver.

Hi,
Yes, it`s called lariat necklace in English, without clasp, either tied into a loose knot if long enough or fastened with a ring or a brooch.
