Maker's Mark on Porringer, London 1695

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone can assist me in identifying the maker's mark on this porringer?

The lack of discernible letters has made searching more difficult. It looks like it could be a fairly unusual shape though, so just wondering if anyone recognises it?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
This porringer is very suspicious for being genuine 17th century.
Pay attention to red arrows pointing to bottom plate soldered to the body. Genuine vessel should be hammer raised on stake from a single sheet of silver. Moreover, even soldering was poorly done.
Later repair is not very likely,either;bottom plate could not get detached like this had the porringer been made of a single sheet of silver.

Secondly, something was deliberately obliterated, a mark or something (black arrow).
In a word, this does not look right. Sorry.

Hello again,
I stand corrected in regard of ``how it`s made``. There are Charles II vessels with a pedestal,I did not pay attention to, with soldered bottom plates.
Nevertheless, the craftsmanship was excellent and solder lines were taken care of, being almost invisible.
Silver more than 300 years old is often too damaged to be repaired and it`s very lucrative to reassemble various pieces.
I still find this porringer suspicious.

In person, to me at least, the areas of solder (particularly the one below your black arrow) look more like repairs.

I just realised that your middle red arrow looks to be pointing to the black line running along the bottom edge?

If that is the case then I apologise as it is a trick of the light (and my bad photography). In reality that line does not exist at all, its just a reflection.

It makes sense now - repair and not unusual for silver more than 300 years old.
Unfortunately, cannot recognize the maker.
