Hi,

No, the marks are those of the Sheffield Assay Office for 1829. The maker is Sansom & Harwood.

Can you post an image of the whole item?

See item #8 of the 'Dont's' here: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10

Sheffield Assay Office used from 1780 until 1853 a special form of their hallmark for items which required a smaller hallmark in which the crown and date letter were combined into a single punch. As Trev has said this is the version created for 1829.

Sansom & Harwood did not register their mark with the Sheffield Assay Office until 1833, but as there is no 'S & H' mark recorded at that office prior to that date, I can only assume that there was an earlier unrecorded entry for that firm.

thank you all for the help ..i think it a bit big for a cruet stand as the container holes are quite wide ,they would be more suited to a normal drinking glass size , but i could be wrong

Cruet stand is the correct designation. It's not intended for condiment dispensers of the size we use nowadays but for the larger bottles for oil, vinegar, spice casters, etc which were essential for fine living 200 years ago.

With the cartouche at the front, this would be a stand for a Warwick Cruet set, generally containing sugar casters & two oil bottles.

Actually as Phil stated, spice & sugar casters - the two empty rings shown are for the tops of the oil bottles when in use.
