Lowercase h inside circle

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post so I hope I am in the correct "spot" for this post. I have a sterling silver pendant necklace which I believe to be vintage (not sure about older than that). The pendant is marked with the "$" and 925 (which I believe is the mark that belongs to C. Sydney Smith Co. (Manufacturing Jewelers, New York, NY, USA) - ca 1902 - 1928.

My question is regarding the mark on the clasp of the chain which appears to be a lowercase "h" inside a circle. The clasp is also marked "sterling". I have searched everywhere I can think of and can find nothing. I have even tried "date marks" but no luck. I am HOPING that someone here will recognize this or have some information. Thank you in advance for your help!! Joanne

**For whatever reason (maybe b/c the images are "hosted" on google drive ??), I do not believe my images are posting correctly so I've gone ahead and also posted the url for each photo which I did test and they work. I hope this is alright!**

UPDATE: I believe, after further research, that the "$" on the back of this heart pendant, may in fact be the hallmark of george schuler & company, rather than C. Sydney Smith Co. (as stated above). If anyone can confirm that, it would be appreciated! I am also "on the edge of my seat"....hoping for any info on the 'h" inside the circle which is located on the chain clasp. Thanks!

Hi and a belated welcome to the forum.

The lack of response to your query may be due to none of our contributors knowing the answer, or it may be due to the fact that you have posted links rather than embedding your pictures. In the hope that better visibility will provoke a response I am embedding a selection of your images below:

Thank you both (admin and silvermakersmarks) for your replies! I see, "silvermakersmarks" that your attempt at embedding my photos was not successful either. I am thinking the problem is "where" the photos are "hosted". I will try and save them somewhere else and then try this again.

The images were fine when I embedded them but it would appear that Google Drive image URLs (addresses) are dynamic rather than fixed so change for every session. I have had another go by re-hosting them:

Third time's a charm? I hope so...

As an update, after receiving some additional information on the "$" mark on the back of the pendant, I believe that this mark is from Shube's Manufacturing Inc.

Here are the images of the clasp on the chain that accompanies the pendant:

Thank you AGAIN, silvermakersmarks! Seems I was doing the same thing you were, at the same time. I just now saw your re-post with the photos! Thank you. I, too, saved the photos to another site and that did the trick. I see that you are located in the UK. One of my thoughts was that this "h" mark might be a date mark rather than a hallmark or maker's mark. From what I understand (which isn't too much yet), American silversmiths did not use date marks, however, they WERE used in the UK and elsewhere around the world. I would be very surprised if this chain was NOT from the US (or manufactured here) but anything is possible. Thanks again! Joanne

I can NOT believe I FOUND the MARK!!! The lowercase "h" inside the circle. I haven't even researched the company yet, but had to come here to post and share this info! I won't say HOW many hours I've spent researching this one hallmark!!! Thank you all for your help.

Here it is!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Should it help with your research, the address of the Hitchcock Chain Co. was 49, Freeway Drive, Cranston, Rhode Island.
