Hello,

I have looked through this site, a few site's online and a couple of books. Starting to think I suck at this. Would love for someone to help me learn who the "GD" hallmark is? it does not seem to match Gerorge Day or have any British Assay marks. Also, what is the oval shape mark to the right of the 925? These are tho only marks I can find and they are repeated on other parts of the hunter case. The movement would date this case to somewhere between 1815 - 1850.

Thanks,

Dan

G.D are the initials of George Charles Dimier, the principal of Dimier Brothers, who were London-based watch importers during the first quarter of the 20th century. The mark after the .925 is a London Assay Office import mark in use from 1906 but I note that there is no date letter as I would have expected.

Hi,
The mark on the right is London post 1904 import mark.
See here:
http://www.925-1000.com/importmarks.html

The importer (sponsor`s mark G.D) was Dimier Bothers & Co Ltd (Georges Dimier), London.watch importers.
