Thanks Cheryl. I gathered from another thread that Stiltons are fairly unusual. Wasn't sure the closed look on this made it something other, but since they didn't need Dodger Dog servers in 1893 (and this is marked Pat. Pend.), oddball cheese sounds just about right.

Wouldn't say cheese scoops are particularly common, but I've seen quite a few of them over the years - there have also been a good number produced fairly recently by modifying spoons (some done better than others), might poke around to investigate whether it's original or not...

Below is a Gorham cheese scoop in the 1885 'Kings III' pattern with provenance to the 19th century - same form scoop, have little reason to doubt yours is original too...
