My first query but first a Thank You for this site. I have used it a number of times and always found that it answered my questions, five stars!
This time a puzzle.
I recently obtained a collection of British Officer gorgets. Quickly identified several, but one eludes me. English Sterling and I think George lV .
but the identification of the city mark which in turn would be the key to the date mark is the puzzle.
Help please. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vincent,

Welcome to the Forum.

The marks are pseudo's, probably Chinese.

It's no surprise to see such marking, especially on a military item. Such pieces were often lost and the use of a native silversmith to provide a replacement, copied from a fellow officer's Gorget, would have meant the duplicate arriving in days, rather than weeks if ordered from London, and probably at a fraction of the cost.

The 'K' mark may be copied from the pattern provided or it may be a maker's mark, if so, they are unknown to me.

Trev.
