Hi, I have tried to research the marking "BELL BRO'S." for a boxed set I have and I am having no luck. Can anybody give me some direction?? Also, I do not understand why the 12 teaspoons are marked "STERLING" and what appears to be a scalloped spoon (sugar spoon??) and butter knife are marked "PURE COIN" for a total of 14 pieces. Was it common to mix coin and sterling in the same set?? What would the full set be called a "tea set" or a "coffee set" or some other name?? TIA for whatever assistance you can provide. Mark

Dorothy Rainwater's "Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers" provides a little information on Bell Bros., Ogdenburg, New York. All they say is that Bell Bros was bought by Tucker & Parkhurst, Concord, New Hampshire, in 1898.

George R and Elliot Bell were the founders of the Bell Bros firm. George was born in Scotland in about 1818 and Elliot was born in New York in about 1820. Both men were St Lawrence County, New York watchmakers and jewelers from at least 1850.
