This one came in a good lot of quality Sterling items, the marks have me a little confused. I think its Old Sheffield Plate, but then again, so I'm just asking to be sure that's it's not sterling, with some odd marks for reasons beyond my knowledge.
Thanks in advance, Dave.

Ques.-Why can't that quadraped decide which direction he wishes to travel in? Does the orientation suggest anything? And does the fluer-de-lis strictly post-date the dropped crown?

......does the fluer-de-lis strictly post-date the dropped crown?
Good question!
Likely does post-date. The use of a crown device plated wares was made illegal in the UK around 1897. This was at the end of Victoria's reign, with the future Edward VII, as Prince of Wales waiting in the wings. What better choice the replace the crown than the POW's plume of feathers?

Ah, quite right, it was the feathers. That's what happens when you flip back and forth too fast w/o re-checking. Definitely makes sense for dating.
