The maker's mark seems to be upside down and it appears to begin with "J", but I can't work out what the rest of it might be.

Hi,
There was a famous maker of enamel dogs cigarette and vesta cases in Birmingham at the time (before the Great War).
His name was
Joseph Gloster and this is his mark a year earlier (1910).
Try to decipher and compare your mark.

I think it`s upside down as Phil already noticed and starts with J.

It's not Joseph Gloster Ltd - the style of the J is wrong (serif on OP's case but no serif on Gloster's mark).
Phil
