I picked this cup up off of an online auction and am quite pleased with it but I'm a little perplexed about the hallmarks.
The maker mark is E.J.G. which looks like many I have seen. I don't quite get the date mark.
I bought it thinking it was pretty consistent with the ca. 1900 date marks but now that I have it in hand I see that it has an uppercase letter (F) in a shield. The bottom is marked ENGLAND.
I would greatly appreciate any clarification I can get here.
Thanks, Jeff
Birmingham Maker Greenberg Cup
Re: Birmingham Maker Greenberg Cup
Hi Jeff,
The year of assay of your Christening cup was 1930. The maker, which you already know, appears to be Ellis & Co.(Birmingham) Ltd..
Unravelling the Greenberg business empire is daunting, but Ellis Jacob Greenburg, the son of Israel Sigmond Greenberg (see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... erg#p90475 ), was head of Ellis & Co.(Birmingham) Ltd., he died on the 17th July 1931. The business of Ellis & Co. was founded by Ellis Greenberg, but this was another person (Grandfather perhaps?).
Corrections and/or further information gratefully received.

Re: Birmingham Maker Greenberg Cup
Thanks Trev,
That is a great synopsis and puts the style in line with the date nicely.
The company certainly made well designed and constructed items if this cup is an indication.
Very much appreciate your input.
