Does anyone recognize the maker’s mark on this (I believe!) snuff box? As you’ll see, it is incompletely stamped, but looks to me like WE of VE, assuming there are only two letters in the mark.

The maker will be WE as there are no known VE makers. Unfortunately there are 3 apparently identical WE marks to choose from:

- William Eaton, registered as a plateworker in 1813, died 1845, but mainly known for flatware
- William Edwards, registered as a smallworker 1800 & 1809; later marks with pellet between letters registered 1823 onwards
- William Ellerby, registered as a smallworker 1804, died 1826; but probably using a different mark in 1814 (pellet between letters in an oval punch)

The balance of probablities seems to favour William Edwards as the maker.
