I've recently picked up a piece that I believe to be a sporran, but can't determine what one of the marks signifies. It's a lion FACE. Not a leopard for London, or an imperial lion. Just the front face of a lion. It looks rather like the South African silver purity mark used 1948-73, but there's no U surrounding it, and the anchor of Birmingham is on the piece. I'd be interested to know if anyone recognizes the mark and what it signifies.

I know I'm not the poster but I just posted in another area but couldn't figure out how to include a picture with the post.
