Assay Mark

Post by cww1960 »

Hi All,

I have a question regarding Assay Masters, I have a serving spoon with an Assay Mark from Kliment Zabaryevsky from Vilnuis, silver master гс.

According to my books, which may be incomplete, there is no maker with this hallmark from Vilnuis.

Is it possible that assay masters assayed items from Silver Masters from different towns? Or is it that this is just a faked item?

Kliment Zagayevsky (Загаевский) assayed in Vilnius/Vilna/Vilno 1885-1898 and thereafter in Riga 1899-1916 (Incorrect in Postnikova #181) . The kokoshnik is left looking (1899-1908). Therefore the town is more likely Riga in Latvia. Unfortunately the maker is unknown to me. If I find him I let you know.
