Hi Guys
Can any one help identify this object for me. I thought it was a match strike. Filled it with Swan Vestas and they wouldn't strike, just rubbed of on the pottery. Has marks on bottom and Chester Hall Mark, which I can't quite identify. All the cartouches appear squares.
Appreciated.

If it's not a match striker then I have no idea what it could be. The bottom stamp reads "Doulton Lambeth London".

The Chester date letter is from the letter cycle 1926-1950 but I am having difficulty working out which one it is. It looks like a composite of "k", 1935, and "l", 1936. You can see the full cycle here. The maker's mark has been pretty much polished out but, judging from what is still visible and the length of the mark, I think it is one of the marks of Saunders & Shepherd, probably this one (which was in use during the same period):

Yes it does. I can now see, looking at 200% magnification, that I was wrong about the date cycle. It now looks much more like "K" for 1893. In addition there is a definite edge to the first part of the maker's mark so, although it is still Saunders & Shepherd, it looks much more like this version of their mark:

which ties in nicely with my revised date.
