Beautifully Made Compact - with Mystery Marks - Expert Help Needed!

Hello All,

I am new to this forum but I am hoping an expert can help me. I have had this Arts and Crafts or Celtic(?) style compact for a couple of years and still cannot find out anymore about the maker and I have looked on the main sites and through searches. It appears to be silver gilt with black enamel. It has three marks on it including single stamped 1 and a 4. Can anyone kindly tell me which country it would come from or who made it? It feels quality and but has remained a mystery.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Welcome to the Forum.

The mark image is a little hazy, are the initials 'PM'?

Trev.

Hi Trev,

Many thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

Unfortunately the marks are so small that that was the best I could take even with a magnifying attachment.

The squarew mark is divided into four and has two stars top and bottom and the letter 'p' on the left and what looks like a backard 'p' or flag on the right. The quare mark is then followed by a 1 and then a 4.

I have looked everywhere I can but this has been really difficult. I am not even sure what the numbers 1 and 4 mean?

Any help or clues would be great.

Thanks again,
Nathan
