Post by silver-spoon »

Need help with dating HW&Co mark from Sheffield during Victoria reign. Also can you ID the mark to the left of HW&Co? Thanks

The date of this hallmark is 1856. HW&Co is Henry Wilkinson & Co. The mark you are asking about is a Design Registration mark. For how to read it see https://www.925-1000.com/registry.html, but I can tell you that this design was registered as a metallic object on 19th February 1856.

Also noticed this image on the fork blade. Could anybody help with an ID? Looks a bit satanic?

Hi,

That looks like the 'Green Man' See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man

You have the same detail on the bottom of the knife-handles.

Also on the knife blade. That would be an appropriate motif for a fruit course set. Appears to be grapes on knife handle could it also be Bacchus?

That is indeed another possibility.
