Welcome to the Forum Jon,
I suspect the reason you are having difficulty is that your Victorian pint mug is made from pewter rather than silver. It was commercially used in a pub/ale house and as such its capacity was required to be verified. The crowned VR(Victoria Regina) over 507 is a British Weights & Measures Verification mark meaning the volume has been inspected by an official Weights & Measures Inspector. The inscription on the bottom "Fountain Strood" is the name of a tavern caled "Fountain" of High Street, Strood. Details of the pub can be found here.

Thank you so much for the assistance, I will look for pewter stuff. It is now so shiny I mistook it for silver. Again I appreciate you.
