Okay, buyers from St. Louis firm Whelan-etc.-Hutchinson visited New York in 1902 staying at the New Amsterdam Hotel:

There are also references to the company in 1909. So, this might match the era for The Sweetser Company of New York listed as "Gold and silversmiths c. 1900-1915" using the mark "S & E" in three separate boxes conjoined in the horizontal frame. It is in RAINWATER 4th edition (drawn sample) and on this site in a less ornate style found here:

Of course, your second boxed letter is hard to visually match-up here.

Wow, thank you so much. I have never posted anything on a forum before and was a little nervous that I was posting in the wrong area. I couldn’t figure out what the middle letter was, I was thinking “R” or “&” so that helps a lot. I really appreciate it, my girlfriend and I love collecting sterling and some of the more ornate silver plate stuff. We can usually figure out what we have gotten but this one stumped us. Thank you again, we really appreciate your help and fast response.
