Your object is the main part (burner) from a Curling Iron Stove but the actual iron is missing. The two U-stands to keep the Iron in place are missing/broken. Look carefully at the end of the stand's handle, the end and you will find that a part is missing from it. Look also on the stow's upper "inner" side and you can see that something is missing/broken from there too. It was the other stand from the U-hold that kept the iron in the right position over the flame.
A picture of a similar stand is find (No. 220. on p. 294) in the book Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork from Wϋrtembergische MetallwarenFabrik 1906. Above the picture is a picture of the missing iron (looks like a scissor).
Please clean and polish it. It is silver plated. The XO mark indicates that it is also oxidized. The impressed decoration is blackened with a solution of potash and the flat areas are polished to a MATT finish (be careful with the polishing!).
Why some jerk has destroyed the stove is a good question, what a shame.....and where might the iron be?
