How to open shakers that are rusted shut?

I have multiple sterling shakers that are rusted shut, apparently due to being packed away in storage for so long by the previous owner(s). I also want to be careful, so as not to damage them. I've applied as much force as I dared, but they haven't budged. Is there an effective and safe way to tackle these stubborn shakers? Thank you in advance.

Have you tried soaking them in hot soapy water? Sometimes adding vinegar will help dissolve the copper salts or table salt that can prevent their being open-able.

Heat them; oven temperature cannot damage silver. You can use hair drier or even open fire (jeweler torch - cautiously).
Then spray with WD - 40.

Thank you. I've tried putting one pair of shakers in boiling hot water. That was to clean off some of the tarnish with baking soda - different story and different thread - but I think that actually loosened the top from one of the shakers. The other one I still cannot get open. So maybe I'll keep trying.
