Can anybody help with the following on this bowl.
1. Why is the crescent facing away from the crown.
2. In the small circular stamp on the base is a capital A with a small b or 8 next to it
3. In the small stamp on the base of the foot is a circlar stamp which has what seems like berries or dots in it
4. The closest thing to the makers mark on your site seems to be Vereinigte Silberwarenfabriken but this is only a guess.
Any help at all will be well appreciated

Hello, this smells like Hanau silver, I do not believe this is the mark of the VSF. Best wishes, Bahner

Hi Bahner
Thank you for your thoughts on this piece, but could you just explain why you doubt it to be the mark that I think it looks like.
Do the other marks that I describe mean anything to anybody.
These marks are very small & can only clearly be seen through a loupe, all of the Hanau marks on the site look quite large & conspicuous.
Are there any other German makers marks that this could be?
Thanks again
Les

Hi again Bahner
I have just had a closer look at that mark and although the outline is similar to my original guess, it looks like three acorns in the body of the mark - does this help at all?

Hello, the style is so much Hanau, VSF did not make silverware like that and the VSF mark just looks different. This mark reminds me of that of Dingeldein, Hanau. Cannot see it too clearly, though. Best wishes, Bahner

I agree to Bahners decision.Typical "Tafel und Schausilber des Historismus aus Hanau" .
