I was told that this was a British spoon, but after some more research I think that I am in the wrong section. It should be Dutch?!

Should I close this and move the post?

:::: Yes try Dutch or German, I saw those "HM Conjoined" references but your hallmark is not in a circular cartouche :::: Also how exactly is the end piece joined to the twisted part of the handle? A better pic of that section might help to understand the construction of the spoon. The construction of the spoon is important. There are experts here who are skilled in 17th/18th century Dutch/German spoons who should be able to help you more. ::::

Hi Stefan, where did you get your information about this so called 17th century spoon? Please tell us more about the provenance of this spoon.
And like requested by Aguest; some better pics. Thanks.

Peter.

Thank you Aguest and Peter. Sorry for the late reply.

The Spoon is heritage from a Swedish painter that used to travel
to the UK and bought some silver spoons there. As far as I know it was from an antique
shop that said that it was from the 1600s. He also left some "normal" spoons
from the 1700s but they have all clear marks from London. Therefore I thought that this
was from London too, but that seems to be wrong.

But, as you heard from the story, it is not very sure.

Here is a picture of the head. It is all I got right now, but I can take more pictures
if it helps.

Thanks, I believe it not to be Dutch.

Peter.

::::: There are "ball-knopped spoon" examples (some with twisted handles) from the 17th century in museums so if this spoon is not Dutch is it from Norway or Sweden? :::::: At the very least I think it's safe to say this is an example of a "ball-knopped spoon" and that helps a little bit but not solving the mystery of age & maker & country ::::::::::::::: Maybe this spoon inspired the painter to collect antique spoons ::::::::

Thank you!

Seems like a hard one.. Norway, Sweden and Germany is on the table now, but I guess it can be something else too.

I find the following HM with some simular spoons from the period, but can't find any mark that is the same so..

Hans Möller Germany (1612–1663)
Henrik Möller Sweden (1645-1690)

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi all,
Skip Henrik Möller/Müller in Stockholm/SE 1645-90 (and Norway). His mark is conjoined HM in a shied and not even close to this one.

Thank you. I only find one of them, and that was wrong. But, there is never the case that they change marks during there working period?

Yes, sometimes punches were broken, worn and renewed and changed, but that doesn't change anything already stated regarding this case.

Hi.

Some update. I have send the spoon to a big auction house and they believe it to be Hans Jacob Møller 1778-1852 Copenhagen.

Do you agree? I only found one silver mark that should be from him from google, and that did not seem right so I am not sure. Can anybody confirm that we have the right maker?

Thanx!
