OK I was having a hard time figuring out how to do it. Should I make the original post over again?

Hello Roxaneo
The word is Mahmoud (or Mahmud) which is a man's name. It could be Arabic or Persian.
If this were Persian silver work we would normally expect to see a stamp with the number 84 or the Persian equivalent to indicate silver content. The painting is rather roughly executed compared to typical Persian work and the image is not particularly Persian. Persian images tend towards garden scenes, historic sites and images from well known stories.
Could the work be Iraqi? This sort of desert caravan image with camels and palm trees appears on a lot of Iraqi niello work
I would be interested to read comments from other members.
