I came across this 800 tray, and I cannot identify the country the hallmarks came from. It is marked 800 twice, and also a hallmark that says either "33R" or "33P" inside a cartouche. First, I thought it could be Italian, but the Italian provinces are all two letters, not one. I'm also not sure if this is solid silver or silver-plated, even though it appears to be hand-hammered. I suppose the 33R/33P could also mean that 33 grams of silver was used to plate the item, which is of considerable size at 11.5'' x 9''. I also couldn't make out any maker's marks, which is bit of a red flag. At this point, I'm just not sure, and have come to the forum experts for advice.

It is Italian mark used 1944 - 1968 (partially struck). The number 33 is assigned to the maker. The province should have two letters, but here only the first letter is seen; there are too many provinces codes starting with P, meaning it`s impossible to identify the maker unless you decipher the second letter after P.

What about Pisa, Pescara, Perugia, Pordenone,Pistoia, Prato ?
No makers with 33 or assay offices were abolished ?

By the time the old style punches had fallen into disuse, only PA, PD, and PV had registered makers that exceeded the number of 33.
