Hi, been trying to Identify this for a few days and I haven't been able to find anything conclusive.
I'm heading towards it being German, any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Mark.

Hi Mark,
It's Italian. The central mark is the Lion of St. Marco of Venice.

Excellent, thanks for that.
So because of the '800' mark would you say that it's 1872-1934?
Mark.

Perhaps likely, however I believe there are many pieces out there with pseudo marks.
Wait for other opinions.

Hi stallard99
I think that the lion of St. Mark on your bowl is a tribute to the history of Venice, without any intent to deceive.
There are many Venetian silversmiths, but also Lombard, Emilian and others who have used and some still use this symbol on San Marco style cutlery and other silverware.
It is true, however, as Dognose says, that there are many pseudo marks intended to deceive, that you find on pieces of silverware in style, almost always alone, without modern marks.
Here is an anthology below
As for your date deduction, strictly speaking you are right. However I would be more for a dating generically in the first half of the twentieth century.
Immediately after the war (WW2), compliance with the regulations was in some cases a bit flexible.
Best

Hi Stallard99
if you can post a sharper photo of the marks, especially the one marked with the arrow, it could be of great use to get more clues, in this case or for the future.
Best regards
Amena

Hi,
If the circular ``mark`` is exactly in the middle, then it is a point seen in round silver objects where they were fixed to the lathe during production.

Hi, the mark with the arrow is in the centre, it's definitely a manufacturer mark.
I've posted another picture of the rubbed mark just in case it is of any use.
Regards
Mark
