Hi,
I have got candlestick that are supposedly from Lisbon and from the first half of the XIX century.
Anyone can identify the maker (AMS initials)?
There is also the issue of the date: the seller stated 1822-43, whereas Tardy says 1814/6 (L under the crown and dot to the right).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
G.

Good afternoon, the silversmith's mark corresponds to António Martins da Silva, registered in 1814.
Cheers

Nothing about the start date, but this thread seems to give the assayer transition to L with two dots dating of 1843:

Might as well include Trev's entries here on Portugese info. which contains two extant photos of authentic Crowned L marks from threads:

Specific dating is not shown, but eras are clear....Stand alone with no pellets in 1790's (?) up to (?). Thence, with one pellet until replaced by unknown assayer with two pellets in 1843. (Reader Warning...there is also a searchable thread with clear photo of the pseudo mark of Crowned L used later.)

Hi,
Many thanks to both of you. As to the date: I gather it is between 1814 when the silversmith was registered and 1843 when the Lisbon mark with two dots was introduced. I really appreciate your help.
Kind regards,
G.
