Hi all,

today I have purchased cigarette case apparently Austrian 1930's.
As I have bought from a gentleman before I have assumed that all is as it should be but when I came home I have noticed couple of things.

1; Not all parts are stamped (only one lid is stamped)
2; None of the hallmarks correspond to anything Austrian (at least I can't pinpoint it to Austria)

I think item is authentic as being made from silver with gold gild but I don't understand why all parts are not stamped and that missing link to Austria.
Can anyone identify these hallmarks on this cigarette case please ?

Thank you very much for your help

Hi,
That was an easy one; the maker is famous Louis Kuppenheim,Pforzheim, Germany.
This LK mark was used 1924-1930 (it is Art Deco case, the marks fit the period).
See here for the history of the silversmith (some pictures are missing, though).

Cannot explain the crown mark; it was claimed in the above page to be partial crescent and crown German Reichsmark, but I have seen the crown on gold, as well as on silver with gold inlay.

Thank you very much AG2012.
I was looking for makers mark LR and mainly in Austria or Hungary register.

I have discounted Germany as I tought that "moon" would be used.
Is it normal that not all parts are stamped ?

Thank you again for your help.

Yes, very much so in German silver; one can usually find only one set of marks. Sometimes even Reichsmark (crescent and crown) is missing, too.
