Hi Guys
I wonder if anyone can help. I took a chance and bought this spoon today. I had no idea what the marks were. A little investigation gives me the impression that it is German and the 13 1/4 mark is for Loth, which I guess is Silver, about 830 ish.
I'm not sure of the other marks. One is really worn, looks like 181 but I'm guessing. The other mark may be a makers mark?
I was wondering a possible date and if it is German.

::::: Still could be Provincial Denmark with (possibly) the makers mark being stamped twice, even though the worn hallmark is undecipherable to my eyes at least. :::::: I believe I've seen a very similar form with Provincial Denmark hallmarks, will have to check back ::::::

:::::: I still want to make sure that your cursive hallmark isn't the "FW" hallmark (for King Frederick Wilhelm) that is a tax mark for the Kingdom Of Prussia used 1809-1812 because your cursive hallmark is similar to a hallmark shown in the German Hallmarks section in the "Before 1886" sub-section and then listed in the "M-S" sub-sub-section. :::::::

::::::: That might be a Kingdom Of Prussia tax-stamp, with the "13-1/4" hallmark being the purity stamp, and the ISH (or whatever that hallmark is) being a silversmith from the Kingdom Of Prussia. ::::::

:::::: The style of the monogram "MM" appears to me as a traditionally French font used in monograms, I have seen that style of "M" a few times on silver pieces from France :::::::

::::: Also thinking about Norway because you do find pieces from Norway that are marked with a year, a maker's name, and a 13-1/4 LOTH designation. :::::::

:::::: If the hallmark furthest to the left is actually a year (it could be 1881 but I can only see what might be the last "81" numbers) then we might save ourselves a lot of time and effort by first researching makers from Norway. ::::::

:::::: Sorry I've been thinking out loud here, I just want to document the things I am thinking, but if you could really focus on that hallmark furthest to the left, and if that actually is the year 1881 then we really should focus our attention on Norway first and foremost. :::::

I took a closer picture of the rubbed mark. I took it upside down as the little hook on the 1 appeared to be on the bottom of the 1 when it was the same way up as the rest. It was the best picture I could get.
