Soviet (?) signet ring

Hello,
I'm new to the forum. A few years ago, my father gave me a ring that he had brought among other jewellery from Soviet Union. I would like to get some clarity on the origin. I understood that it's 14k, but not sure what means the soldier's head and the letter M.
